Advocacy support curbs disability poverty risk

The Welfare Advocacy Support project has shown the value of expert support for disabled people and people living with long term conditions during assessments for Personal Independence Payment and Work Capability Assessment.

The project led by the ALLIANCE in partnership with a range of organisations including the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance, independent advocates have attended disability benefit assessments alongside over 500 people with mental health problems, learning disabilities or neurological conditions in four pilot areas across Scotland.

Read the evaluation report, containing detailed feedback from clients about the service, their experience of assessments and their views on the system.
