Integration Update
 

We are almost finished our scoping report, so watch this space!

We have also already pulled out what you told us we should be prioritising and have used this to create a high level work plan so that we can begin progressing the implementation work.

Given the evolving nature of the landscape, this is, however, only a starter for ten, so have a look and let us know if you think something else needs added.

Third Sector Learning Set

Our Third Sector Learning Set at Stirling Court Hotel (previously known as Stirling Management Centre) is on Thursday 13th October from 9.30am - 4pm. The event will give participants the opportunity to learn more about strategic commissioning; the emerging locality working arrangements; and how the sector is being supported to engage with Integration across Scotland; and will also feature presentations from some of the Integration Authorities at the cutting edge of developments.

This event is aimed at TSIs, Third Sector Organisations working in Health & Social Care, Integration Authorities and Representatives of Integrated Joint Boards. There are also limited spaces for individuals with an interest in integration.

Consultations & Redesign Activities in Partnerships
 

Glasgow City - The IJB have launched a consultation on their Participation and Engagement Strategy. The Strategy outlines the principles and approach that they will take to engaging with individuals, groups and communities when undertaking service planning and service development  activities. The consultation information includes a copy of the strategy; slides illustrating the different engagement structures they are proposing to use; and a link to an online survey and response form so that you can submit your thoughts and comments. The consultation runs until Friday 16th September.

Scottish Government's Programme for Government 2016-17

The Scottish Government's Programme for Government 2016-17 sets out the actions the Government will take in the forthcoming year and beyond. The Programme for Government focuses on the themes of an education system providing opportunities for all, an economy with more jobs and fair work, public services fit for the future, empowering people and communities through strengthening local democracy, and safeguarding Scotland's place in the world.

Delayed Discharge - What's the Latest?

The ALLIANCE has published a new briefing on the issues related to delayed discharge. The briefing, prepared specifically for members and the newly established Health & Sport Committee at Scottish Parliament, notes that adapting to a preventative agenda is a key challenge for Scotland's new Health & Social Care Partnerships, but concerns remain that the focus in the last two years has been on meeting the legal requirements of establishing the Integration Authorities rather than preparing for transformational change.

Social and Community Care Workforce (older people) - What's the Latest?

The ALLIANCE has published a new briefing on the issues related to the social and community care workforce for older people. The briefing, prepared for members and the Health & Sport Committee, notes the numerous challenges facing the Health and Social Care Partnerships in ensuring appropriate recruitment and retention of staff, and some of the ways in which areas are beginning to address these to enable the shift from acute to community care provision.

Consultations and Surveys
 

Mental Health

The Scottish Government has published a paper (easy read), which reflects what has been heard and considered so far in relation to the new 10 year mental health strategy and is seeking responses - until 16 September.

consultation for implementation of certain sections of the Mental Health Act (Scotland) 2015 and associated regulations open until 17th October.

NHS

NHS Lanarkshire have launched a consultation on their new healthcare strategy, 'Achieving Excellence'. The consultation will be open until 1st November.

NHS Fife have launched a 12 week consultation on their clinical strategy. The Clinical Strategy is NHS Fife’s vision for the next five years and beyond.​

Children and Young People

The Scottish Government have launched a consultation for the Child Poverty Bill. The Bill, to be introduced next year, will build on existing work and form part of the overall approach to tackling poverty and inequality in Scotland - open until 30th September.

Social Security / Welfare Reform 

consultation on social security in Scotland (summarised version), which is seeking views on the benefits being devolved, and is the first step towards the creation of the Scottish Government's own social security system - open until 28th October.

Consultation on the Scottish Health Survey questionnaire content

The Scottish Government is seeking views on the future content of the Scottish Health Survey (SHeS). The series has been carried out annually since 2008 and provides regular information on aspects of the public's health and factors related to health which cannot be obtained from other sources - open until 17th October.

Survey of Health & Social Care Staff in Highland - Levels of sensory training

The Scottish Government wants to find out how much sensory (sight/hearing loss) training staff working in health & social care in Highland have received. By completing the survey, you will be helping the Scottish Government to work out how well trained the workforce is and what future training priorities should be - open until Friday 16th September.

  • The Scottish Health Council have recently updated their Participation Toolkit. The toolkit has been compiled to support the NHS to involve patients, carers and members of the public in their own care and in the design and delivery of local services.

  • iamsocialwork SUPER:vision​ - 14th September, 6.30-9.30pm, Glasgow. This event for social workers is a networking and support evening, featuring keynote speakers, workshops and networking opportunities.
  • Challenging Inequities in Palliative Care - 15th September, 9.30am - 12pm, Edinburgh. This event looks at the inequities and barriers people face when accessing palliative care.
  • Coping with Cuts - the Whole System - 21st September, 10am - 3pm, Edinburgh. This event looks at whole system change as a mediator for the impact of efficiencies, and will also offer an opportunity to see the latest findings from Audit Scotland's fortcoming publication on their audit of social work in Scotland.
  • Health Inequality Seminar Series - Community Empowerment - 28th September, 12.30pm - 2.30pm, Edinburgh. This seminar will give an overview of the Community Empowerment Approach including: How the Community Empowerment Act was developed and how the spirit of community empowerment has been developed in Midlothian. 
  • Consultation events: Disability Benefits in Scotland - 29th September, Edinburgh; 4th October, Dundee; 6th October, GirvanThe Scottish Government wants to hear what people think about disability benefits in Scotland. SCLD is organising three events for people with learning disabilities and the people who support them to claim their benefits. This could be a family member, a friend, an advocate or a support worker.
  • Third Sector Health and Social Care Support Team - Learning Set - 13th October, 9.30am - 4pm, Stirling. This event will provide bite-sized training sessions on some of the key topic areas identified during the Team's scoping exercise.
  • Strengthening the Links - 26th October, 9.30am-3.30pm, Edinburgh. This event is aimed at those who have an interest in workforce issues related to health and social care integration, including HR/OD, and workforce leads across health and social care, including the third and independent sectors.
